Emfit QS

Summary

It monitors detailed HR analysis (HRV), movement and sleep (mainly sleep time and sleep staging). The strength of the device as claimed by the company is noncontact technology. Thin band that is placed in bed under the sheets. USB port for charging. This works with the mobile app to monitor heart rate, RR, and estimate sleep. Mechanism of sleep estimation and categorization is not publically available but appears to be based on HRV analysis and movement analysis — all based on Emfit’s proprietary non-contact sensor technology. Sleep data is automatically measured. — sleep staging data against PSG shows moderate agreement and this appears to be mainly related to differentiating awake vs. REM. Main marketing target consists of people interested in health training including atheletes, and elderly people for their safety monitoring. This device may be useful for total sleep time assessment and HRV analysis that may offer some insights into one’s autonomic pattern in sleep.

Claimed Capabilities/Measurements

TST, REM, respiration pattern, sleep apnea, HRV

total sleep time, deep/light sleep and REM staging, heart rate (HR), HRV, body movement

Mechanism

EMFIT QS relies on ballistocardiography, which is a technique for producing a graphical representation of repetitive motions of the human body arising from the sudden ejection of blood into the great vessels with each heart beat. —-then uses multichannel bed sensor and spectral averaging to derive heart rate

Sensors

A measuring strip goes under your side of the mattress (not the bed sheet) and takes readings using ballistocardiography, with a highly sensitive compression sensor.

Technical Considerations

Data is uploaded to Emfit server. Web-based application that is also optimised for use with smart phones provides comprehensive reports about physical recovery, fatigue, stress levels, and sleep quality.

upgrade of analysis tools apps but not the hardware itself
